Sax A Plenty

Celebrating the West Coast sound, this group features three saxophones, bass and drums. Alan Barnes (alto sax), Robert Fowler (tenor sax) and Mick (baritone sax), are joined by Dave Chamberlain (bass) and Tristan Mailliot (drums).

Included within the core repertoire of the band are the 1950s quintet arrangements and compositions of alto saxist / composer / arranger Lennie Niehaus.  Transcribed by Mick, these charts swing with lightness and buoyancy and beautifully display the craft, talent and wit of Niehaus’ work.

“... to have the luxury of your group spreading the fine work of those unique Lennie Niehaus Quintet recordings and his countless arrangements is a musical treat.”

Alan Luff, Jazz Journal Reviewer

“ His rich baritone sound and positive refined playing come over superbly on this very well recorded disc which features a popular selection of well loved melodic tunes.”
