Mick has written music for a variety of ensembles. As well as writing jazz compositions for his band, he has written pieces for big band which have been performed by the London Jazz Orchestra and Trinity College of Music Contemporary Jazz Ensemble. Mick has written through composed pieces; his Saxophone Quartet was written for Quartz, and his brass quintet "Hamlet Stories" was written for Onyx Brass. It was premiered by them in 2006 at Imperial College, London, and has received further performances at St Brides Church, London and Chichester Cathedral as part of the John Armitage Memorial concert series. It was broadcast in 2006 on BBC Radio 3.

A recent piece, "Dangerous Tango", reached the final of the 2007 Uitburo Big Band Composition Competition in Enschede, Holland.
